About Marvellous Makes
A marvellous make is not a perfectly executed creation. It’s the love, passion and enjoyment felt during the process of creating something. It doesn’t have to be a specific skill, it could be just one or a combination. Whatever the medium, whatever the skill level of the creator, if it’s made with love and passion it is a perfect creation and a marvellous make!
Marvellous Makes has been established to celebrate creativity through sharing ideas and creations. We want to embrace the little imperfections that make your handmade treasures unique. No two items you make are ever exactly the same and that is a beautiful quality.
The inspiration behind Marvellous Makes
Craft has been a part of my life since I was a child, but it’s only been in the last 10 years that I’ve truly appreciated the skills I learnt and realised how much I love to spend time creating. I wouldn’t describe myself as being creative – more a creator or maker.
I have been saying for a long time now that I need to make more room in my life for craft. Life and career always seem to get in the way which frustrates me as I get such great pleasure from making things. In 2015, I got married and this made me reflect on what I was spending time on and what is truly important to me. The wedding also inspired me as I was able to call on some truly talented friends to help with various aspects of the arrangements.
On our honeymoon I got some quality time away from work and everyday life for the first time in years. This gave me space to think about how I could bring craft in to my life more. I enjoy sharing my creations but I also enjoy sharing my skills…and so the seed for Marvellous Makes was sewn.
As a business owner I am passionate about promoting businesses and people I have worked with who provide a great service or product. My business itself is not creative in the traditional sense nor does it sell handmade goods. However, this does not mean I don’t have the opportunity to meet some talented creative people through my business networking. I would like Marvellous Makes to celebrate these people and businesses, so I plan to share and promote creative crafts and businesses I have used.
However, Marvellous Makes is not just about the professional makers. It’s about the everyday makers. It’s about the quirks and mistakes that make our handcrafted creations individual and beautiful. So whatever your skill level, whatever your craft – help me celebrate our marvellous makes.
